Li Fengming was born in January 1952 in Changchun City of Jilin Province, China. Started in 1975 he received education in Jilin Industrial Art School, majored in decoration. After graduation, he worked at Jilin City Industrial Art Institute, engaged in stone and jade sculpture designing.
In the year of 1980 he became a disciple of renowned Chinese painter Professor Zhao Jiyuan, and started learning woodblock printing. His very first woodblock print “grosses sparrow” was published on “River City Monthly” as back inside cover. In the following year, several of his chromatographic woodblock printings were published on Jilin Daily, River City Daily and River City Monthly. In 1982 he switched his focus onto watercolor. In 80s of last century, it was quite difficult to sight outstanding artwork samples. And Mr. Li was fortunate enough to sight a printed copy of Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin’s art that featured forests, which inspired him a lot, thus played a decision making role for him to switch focus of painting. In late 80s, he started to feature forests and ice-snow covered forests through his watercolors. Combining western art expression and eastern romantic charm, he created hundreds of brilliant artworks over the past 30 years. Many of his arts were published on various publishing. A feature program of his art was broadcasted on media. In 1996, his arts were exhibited at Beijing International Fair. In the same year, “Li Fengming’s watercolor album” was published by Liaoning Press In 1998, his arts were exhibited in Bangkok, Thailand. In 1999, his arts were exhibited in Guangzhou, China. 2010 was China’s 60th anniversary of foundation, in this year, Li was elected as one of China’s top 10 leading artists in art painting, together with Mr. Wu Guanzhong and Mr.Liu Dawei, their arts collected by relevant archives. In 2010, China Ministry of Foreign Affairs published “Chinese Culture Ambassadors” to souvenir 40th anniversary of China-Italy diplomatic relations establishment. The featured five Chinese artists are Huang Yongyu, Jin Shangyi, Liu Dawei, Mu yilin and Mr. Li Fengming. In 2010, China Science & Culture Press published “The Three Great Masters of Chinese Art Print Altar”, featured Mr. Wu Guanzhong, Mr. Jia Youfu and Mr. Li Fengming. Li has deep understanding to “the true essence of art is developing new style of one’s own”. With 30 years work with perseverance and concentrated effort, he had finally made himself a unique styled painter of master hand, making watercolors, this once silenced painting kind showing signs of renaissance again. |
